Page content loaded. First, note that Logic Express and Logic Pro are different. Logic Express is easier for GarageBand users and it's less difficult to learn than Logic Pro X, but the truth is that it has been discontinued.
Logic Pro X has just been released and it has got a new interface. Although Logic Express is easier, Logic Pro gives you more options. Jul 21, PM. Logic Pro X is a very complex program and moving from Express to X will be easier. Express is Logic 9 without a few pretty much irrelevant features. It will give you a Pro experience as it looks, feels and acts just like Logic Pro 9.
At that stage, you may or may not decide it's just too complex, and at least getting a taste for it will mean that you didn't throw away all that money only to dislike the experience.
Garageband is a fun program, and very useful at times. But Logic Pro is a professional tool, and it's quite unforgiving, complex and cold in comparison. Personally, moving to a professional tool really didn't give me any better results for maybe my first year becasue it will take a LOT of learning, but it's very rewarding.
Not sure why Mende1 has said that Logic Express is easier to use that Logic Pro X, it is basically the same program with less bundled samples, effects and instruments, plus a few other things that most people wont use. If anything Logic Pro X has a streamlined, updated GUI which will arguably make the learning curve shallower probably down to preference more than anything else though. If you want something to get your teeth into straight away then Logic Pro X is the better choice because with Express you will need a few 3rd party plugins to get started really it's just a shell with minimal AU intruments you can learn the basics with what is bundled in Pro X.
Plus, regardless of how cheap Express is, Logic Pro is so cheap it would be stupid not to get it because you won't have to upgrade for a long time.
